Title: Working with Zdzisław Pawlak: Excursions in Computer Science and Mathematics
Abstract
We describe the person and work of Zdzisław Pawlak in 1960ies and, especially, in 1970ies. We describe the scientific atmosphere of the scientific circle of Pawlak, especially in the context of his work on databases (information systems) and the beginning of Rough Sets Theory.
Short Bio
Victor W. Marek was educated at Warsaw University, Poland, getting his D.Sc. in Mathematics in 1972. Since 1983, he is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. Dr. Marek contributed to a variety of areas of Logic and Computer Science, including Set Theory, Nonmonotonic Logic, and various areas of Knowledge Representation, including Rough Sets theory.
