Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems and Software Agents

(ICPS‑SA)

Belgrade, Serbia, 8–11 September, 2024

In line with the strategic objectives of Horizon Europe and the move towards Industry 4.0, the effective management of
Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems (ICPS) presents economic challenges and opportunities. Addressing the complex
challenges of large-scale collaboration and the nuances of distributed system architectures is essential for the development of robust and efficient ICPSs. It is therefore essential to strengthen research into predictive control systems, focusing on both theoretical and practical applications to meet the demands of these sophisticated environments.

With the increasing complexity of ICPSs, there is a pressing need for advanced modelling and simulation methods. This is particularly relevant in the context of Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) which benefit from the integration of artificial intelligence. The convergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing and peripheral computing  technologies is crucial in this context, enabling distributed learning and improving the responsiveness of MAS in ICPS.

The emergence of software agent technologies is a significant milestone in industrial innovation, in line with the digital growth objectives of the European economy. This thematic track seeks to explore the potential for collaboration between software agents and ICPSs, using the interconnections provided by IIoT, cloud and edge computing to meet the strategic objectives of international research agendas and the principles of Industry 4.0.

This effort aims to drive digital transformation, emphasising the strategic integration of cutting-edge technologies to set a new benchmark for industrial operations. Key terms such as IoT, cloud computing, edge computing and distributed learning are central to this initiative, meaning technology integration is essential in the ongoing development of ICPSs. The academic strand therefore focuses on the importance of advanced control systems, AI-based modelling and the role of software agent technologies in this evolving domain.
