Getting to Lodz

Lodz Airport – Timetables, Destinations, Tickets

In case you "cannot" fly to Lodz (Łódź in Polish) you can fly to Warsaw and take a train. It is also possible to fly to some other big Polish city (if necessary due to use of some discount airlines) and take a train. Timetable of Polish Railways in the link below. You need to select Łódź Kaliska station.

Łódź essentials

Lodz lies at the heart of Europe, within a radius of 500 km there are 7 capitals: Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Vilnius.

Lodz is an important point on the map of Poland: centrally located, 30 km from the geometric centre of the country and only 119 km from the capital – Warsaw.

Lodz is a place of extraordinary eruption of dynamic, nineteenth-century capitalism. From acraftsmen village during 60 years it has transformed into an industrial, international, multilingual city. In the late XIX and early XX century, the city recorded the most intensive development (even by global standards, only Chicago at that time developed as rapidly).

In the XIX century, duringthe industrial development, in the depths of plots along the main axis of the city constructio nof factories began, together with magnificent palaces and metropolitan townhouses at the front of the properties.

Metropolitan area is the oldest and best developed urban structure of Lodz, filled with magnificent residential and factory buildings as well asmost regular and densely built quarters.

In Lodz there is a large urban open space, which consists of:

  • Forest areas, including in particular Łagiewnicki Forest - the largest forest area located within the city limits in Europe,
  • 34 public parks, of which 21 are considered cultural monuments,
  • Two strict nature reserves,
  • Squares,
  • Rows of greenery along the streets,
  • Green areasin the middle of quarters,
  • Residential gardens, of which 10 were listed in the register of monuments.

Currency

The currency in Poland is the Polish Z loty (PLN) 1 PLN = 100groszy. Coins circulate in denominations of 1 PLN, 2 PLN, 5 PLN and 1, 2, 5, 10,20 and 50 groszy; banknotes are in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 PLN.

Currency Exchange

Currency should be exchanged at a registered exchange centre (in Polish: KANTOR). There is no commission for the exchange. Kantors at arrival points (train station / airport) usually offer less favorable exchange rate. Note that cash should not be exchanged on the street, or with bystanders.
