Workshop on IT Research and Development in Poland  (RDPL'08)

Wisla, Poland, October 20-22, 2008

Organized as a result of collaboration between the International Multiconference on Computer Science and Information Technology and the XXIV Autumn Meeting of the Polish Information Processing Society.

Research and Development (R&D) is a process intended to create new or improved technology that can provide a competitive advantage at the business, industry, or national level. While the rewards can be very high, the process of technological innovation (of which R&D is the first phase) is complex and risky. R&D is one of means by which business can experience future growth by developing new products or processes to improve and expand their operations. At the end of the day, R&D activities within the Software Industry drive the Information Society forward.

One of the interesting areas that did not get enough of deserved attention is the status of R&D research in IT in Poland. Therefore the RDPL’08 Workshop will attempt at issues like: (1) How big is the presence of IT relate R&D activities in Poland? (2) Which are typical problems and challenges of companies investing in innovations? (3) Why a cooperation of R&D companies with the educational entities in Poland is far away from EU standards? (4) What are typical characteristics of offshore R&D centers in Poland? (5) How to start a R&D center in Poland up?

The purpose of this workshop is not only to address questions like these, but also to look at the IT related R&D from a broader perspective, to present ideas and to share experiences.

Furthermore, one of important aims of the workshop is to setup a regular discussion forum to promote exchange of ideas and results aimed at development of IT related R&D presence in Poland.

RDPL Workshop welcomes submissions of R&D case studies in a form of PPT presentations.

Here is the non-exclusive list of topics:
